The City of Rochester is bordered on the north, south, and west by the City of Rochester Hills, and to the east by Shelby Township in Macomb County. Rochester is located north of Detroit about 30 minutes by car. When local residents say Rochester they mean both the City of Rochester Hills and the City of Rochester.

Rochester has 3 colleges Oakland University which is home of the Grizzlies, Oakland Community College and Rochester college. A new medical building is being built at Oakland University.

Rochester is home to many fine dining restaurants. Some are Kruse & Muer, Mitchell Fish Market, Rochester Mills Beer Company, and The Golden Eagle.

Rochester has many community events. Some are art and apples , the Christmas parade and the Avon Players.
