Curious About Where Designers Get Their Inspiration Today?

by Heather
February 17th, 2012

By Erica Christoffer, multimedia Web producer, REALTOR® Magazine

How do designers and stagers stay on top of the latest trends and solutions for home interiors?

Check out Pinterest, a new social media site where members “pin” photos they like from around the Web to themed image boards on their personal page. Pins are shared with friends and other users, and Pinterest offers an integration option to share images to Facebook and Twitter. You must request an invitation to join, which takes less than one week to receive (my invite came after two days).

Home Sales Market Report for January 2012

by Heather
February 13th, 2012

Oakland County home sales are down 1.1% from January 2010 at 1,117 sales to January 2012 1,105.  However, the average sale price was up 5.3% to $100,000 in January 2012.

Oakland County had a large drop in inventory for sale from 8,617 homes in January 2011 to 6,483 in January 2012.  This reduction in inventory is limiting choices for buyers, and helping properties to sell more quickly—there are still hot deals, but they are not lasting on the market long!

Lessons Learned When Buying Auction Property

by John Burt
February 10th, 2010

I’ve always been interested in property, having completed studies in interior design and have had a few lucky purchases when it comes to houses.

I picked up a bargain with my first house, an ex-local authority end terraced place that I purchased for an absolute snip. After the usual updates eg. new kitchen, bathroom and windows etc, I was able to sell it with a profit margin enough for a decent deposit on a beautiful Victorian property that needed a fair bit more work, albeit cosmetic. The Truth about Mortgage Rates

by John Burt
February 10th, 2010

The best rumors have the longest staying power, and the untruths about the connection between Bank of Canada interest rate cuts and mortgage rates is a prime example. Why? Well, though Bank of Canada interest rate cuts do affect the financial industry, they do not affect every segment of the financial sector; some segments are directly affected, others are only indirectly effected, and then there are segments that are directly or indirectly effected depending on the financial product. The mortgage industry falls into that third category. Continue reading "The Truth about Mort"

The Flexibility you Need: Benefits of Home Equity Lines of Credit

by John Burt
February 1st, 2010

Home Equity

When you have a mortgage on your home but the value of the property exceeds the amount owed, the difference between the outstanding debt and the property value is referred as Home Equity. This remaining property value can be used to guarantee another loan: A Home Equity Loan or Line of Credit.
